After spending time on it for hours, I feel different than I first playing it. I used to say it's an okay game, it's not bad now I'd like to say it's a good tbs game.PROS- the good thing is that the CTH system is still there, pretty much the same.- graphic/animation is good (it might be a meh at first after a while I think it is good)- turn-based combat is good.- weapon variation (melee, pistol, smg, assault rifle, sniper, grenade, etc)- gunplay - overwatch feature: you'll get to select a cone watch on which direction you want to overwatch. This one is actually better the original since the original actually does not have this feature, there's only a chance to return fire. It would be great if the game have these both features.- AI combat tactic is good enough for me to not to expose myself to an open gun fire if not neccessary.- survival element. - the game sound affect is good- the game runs smooth for me, I have not yet encountered any freezed frame or on loading screen or ctd at all, it's quite impressive for a low budget game.CONS- some of the popular features been cut off. - The maps are smaller for both strategic and world map. - Everything you do is in turn-based mode(but you can remote loot once all enemies are dead) - It's not as open-world as the original one, like in the wolrd map you move from point A to B you'll get the option to campfire and in campfire mode you can repair stuffs, clean bandages, doctoring, crafting etc. you cannot move freely to any sector you want like the good old days.- too much repetitive VOs, at some point you will get annoyed by that.- every character has the same amount of AP point.- the game is not deep on...., how to say, like in the original JA, your stance has effect on accuracy as well as guns accessories. In JA2, if you attached a bipod on a rifle. you must be on prone position to get the accuracy bonus and everything has downsides also in JA2 you will have to prepare your magazines for combat which is highly realistic. Rage does not have that.- changing weapon in hand does not cost AP.- No dual pistols wielding!!- INVENTORY!!!all in all, it's a good game.7/1009/12/2018. Okay, since this game just released I wanted to play it more before I wrote a review but with other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on it I thought I needed to write this sooner with updates later. I was a kid playing the first Jagged Alliance on my Gateway 2000 back in the 90s. The other JA games were not near the level of the original BUT they were unique in their own right. Others have compared this game to being X-Com 2 or some bastard version of XCOM but what you guys may not know, having not played the original, JA was actually the superior product back when it released and X-COM was compared to it. This game is good, I wouldn't say it is as good as the original because something about hiring the first set of mercs in the original game was like perfect for immersion but this game is good. If you played the original, these characters come directly from it and are an attempt to show "war is hell" and as a veteran myself I can tell you that after any amount of prolonged time in the military changes you as a person and on top of that to see actual combat or deployments messes with your mind. I think the problem is that others are comparing this game to a AAA title and a $60 game when this game released on sale for 10% off making it less than $20. The mechanics of this game will make it worth the $20, their budget was FAR smaller than that of X-COM, so give it a chance. I will say that it is not as glitchy as X-COM 2 was on release... I mean that game had you missing 95% shots left and right, and aliens grabbing ppl through walls.... I'm a JA fan from the first hour. If you are too, and you're looking for a new JA, this is not it.Still, I'm finding just enough to enjoy here to be able to recommend it. It's a decent tbs with a good bit of strategy, even if it has some issues. Good- Fun tbs gunplay- Enjoyable banter- Satisfying weapons (impact, sound)- A hint of Jagged Alliance flavour- Manages to get you into the spirit of freeing an oppressed peopleOk - Graphical style is nice, but does not quite fit the franchise- The story picks up rather late- Some of the voice acting is good, some of it is rather lacklustre- Seeing some of the old favourites return, and even ... no I won't spoil that- 20 hours of gameplay is a bit short, but for 20 bucks it's ok- Stealth component is well done, though I was glad the reliance on that faded when I picked up better weaponsBad- Not Jagged Alliance (just that whiff of it)- Weak AI, sometimes downright dumb- The first few missions are a TERRIBLE reflection of what the game really is about- Missions are very much "on rails"- Picking up loot at the end of a mission is a real pain- After clearing the map of enemies, still being in tbs is a real painAll in all, much worse has been done to iconic franchises such as Might and Magic, Command & Conquer, Ultima and others. :). The game crashes when I'm 'outside' and 1-3 minutes into the game. So it is no hardware problem, as other games with higher requirements work just fine.Otherwise it looks loke a fun game. All the downlotes here comparing with ja1,2... maybe 'the old' players are disappointed but thats my first ja game. It is fine, it 'just' crashes.Loading times are short. Seems to be a fun game. I hope for a fix though.. Fun game. I just hope they release a real jagged alliance game soon.. The negative review on this game is undeserved mostly due to the fact that it doesn't fit into the rose colored glasses of those who fell in love with the original JAs.I never played the originals but taken as a game by itself, its a fun game and well worth a look at if you like tactical turn based games. I personally like the art style, but to each their own. No bugs so far and enjoying the campaign. Dservers way higher then the current 44% mixed review. Too mnay basing their reviews on nostalgia and unreasonable expectstions.. I'm a huge jagged alliance fan and I normally don't write reviews but this game is getting a lot of hate because of the name but If you ignore the name (and the tutorial and the first 2 maps) and actually look at the gameplay then you'll find that this game isn't bad at all. The turn based combat is great, it forces you to think about your actions since you only have 2 characters against an army. The resting phase is nicely done, where you can recover and store items. The health/infection/hydration system that has been worked in is great and I personally don't mind the graphics. Altho I can see why people won't like them. Each character is unique and has his own traits. And I like the camouflage system and the rage system (if you character gets hit to much they can use their character specific bonus move)I do have to say that the voice acting and the amount of v.o's is a bit annoying (especially in the tutorial "now move the other one") and sometimes the ai has weird moments. (For example one of the enemies saw one of my mercs and started freaking out but didn't inspect the site where he saw my merc but started running around over tables and such. xD)There's also the lack of options for graphics and keybindings, would be nice if that's added in a patch.Anyway, if you are a turn based combat fan like me and can look past the jagged alliance name I recommend trying it. But do skip the tutorial and ignore the first 2 maps.
